Abstract. The ericaceous chamaephytes as Bruckenthalia spiculifolia ‘Balkan Rose’, Daboecia cantabrica ‘Alba’, Gaultheria mucronata and Rhododendron ‘Melina’ can be successfully cultivated on ebb-and-flow benches when fertilized with Kristalon (Yara) 20:5:10:2 (N:P2O5:K2O:MgO) + microelements at concentrations 0.5 g NaCl·dm-3. Higher concentration of nutrient solution resulted in an increase of salt accumulation in growing medium.

Key words: ebb-and-flow benches, ericaceous plants, recycling, subirrigation

Summary

The effect of concentration of nutrient solution on the growth of ericaceous small shrubs as Bruckenthalia spiculifolia ‘Balkan Rose’, Daboecia cantabrica ‘Alba’, Gaultheria mucronata and Rhododendron ‘Melina’ cultivated on ebb-and-flow benches was investigated. Fertilizer Kristalon 20:5:10:2 = (N:P2O5:K2O:MgO) + microelements was used at tree concentrations i.e. 0.5; 0.75 and 1.0 g·dm-3. The best growth of all the tested ericaceous plants was noted at the lowest nutrient solution concentration.
